KPPA pushes for central and regional coordination to address violence
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) is promoting coordination between central and regional governments, as the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Women’s and Children’s Protection (UPTD PPA) serves as the frontline in handling violence cases at the district level.
“UPTD PPA at the district level is the spearhead in addressing violence against women and children. Coordination between the central and regional governments is key to strengthening services for women and children experiencing violence,” said Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
The minister made these remarks during a visit to the UPTD PPA in Jombang Regency and a meeting with a 15-year-old child victim of sexual violence.
“The handling of violence cases in Jombang is very good. The victim received excellent services, facilitated medical examinations, and transport services for every check-up. This is a good example that should be replicated in other regions. The victim also expressed gratitude to the Jombang Regency Government for the facilities provided, and the case has been handled well and quickly,” said Arifah Fauzi.
The Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection urged the public to actively report violence cases through official channels.
“We urge the public to report acts of violence against women and children through the Friend of Women and Children Service (SAPA) by calling 129,” said Minister Arifah Fauzi.
Her side emphasised the importance of educating children on self-protection, as well as the need for cross-sectoral collaboration in efforts to prevent and handle cases.
“I also encourage parents to be more active in accompanying their children, including providing understanding about body boundaries that must be maintained, so that children have the knowledge to protect themselves amid increasingly complex social interactions,” said Arifah Fauzi.
The Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection hopes that this working visit can strengthen synergy between the central and regional governments in improving the quality of services for education as well as protection of women and children in Jombang Regency.
“I want this UPTD to be supported by all parties so that its function is maximised. We hope prevention can be carried out effectively. I am confident that Jombang can become a pilot project for handling child and women’s protection cases maximally,” said Arifah Fauzi.
