JAKARTA – Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman has become the latest regional head to be caught in a surprise arrest operation (OTT) by Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK).

Syamsul was arrested on Friday, 13 March 2026, and is currently in transit to Jakarta to undergo questioning by KPK investigators at the KPK’s Red and White Building.

Those detained have diverse backgrounds. Based on preliminary examination results, Syamsul is suspected of receiving money related to projects within the Cilacap Regency Government’s jurisdiction. The KPK has also seized evidence in the form of cash, though the amount and origin have not yet been disclosed.

Before being taken to Jakarta, Syamsul first underwent questioning at the Banyumas Regional Police Station in Central Java. Syamsul, along with 26 others, arrived at the police station at approximately 4:50 p.m. West Indonesian Time for questioning.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., several municipal officials were observed undergoing questioning, including Cilacap Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono, Head of Communication and Information Service (Diskominfo) Buddy Haryanto, and Head of Community Empowerment and Village Service (Dispermades) Heru Kurniawan.

Also present were the Head of Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Service (DPKUKM) Oktrivianto Subekti and Head of Social Service (Dinsos) Ichlas Riyanto. However, their status in the surprise arrest operation remains unclear.

Questioning at the Banyumas police station concluded at approximately 9:12 p.m. Afterwards, Syamsul and others detained were immediately transported to Jakarta for further questioning by KPK investigators.
