The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to the potential for former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to secretly return to house arrest. KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement, Asep Guntur, stated that Yaqut has currently been placed in the KPK Detention Centre (Rutan) to ensure legal certainty. This step dispels public concerns about any possible covert change in detention status in the future.

He emphasised that returning Yaqut to the detention cell is the agency’s strategy to accelerate the investigation into the alleged Hajj quota corruption case.

“Of course, we will proceed according to the needs in handling this case. We ensure that this case runs smoothly and quickly,” Asep said at the KPK’s Red and White Building on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

When asked about guarantees that Yaqut would remain in the detention centre or the potential for him to return to house arrest without public knowledge, Asep stressed that the investigators’ current focus is on time efficiency. Detention in the centre is deemed to facilitate better coordination for the intensive examinations that have been scheduled.

“That’s why it was returned; this is part of accelerating the case handling process,” he said.

Previously, on Thursday (19/3/2026), the KPK had shifted Yaqut’s detention to house arrest. This was revealed by the wife of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, or Noel, Silvia Rinita Harefa, after visiting Noel at the KPK Detention Centre during Eid on Saturday (21/3/2026).

Silvia said that her husband and other KPK detainees had not seen Yaqut in the detention since Thursday (19/3).

The KPK has revoked Yaqut Cholil Qoumas’s house arrest status and returned him to the detention centre. The Hajj quota corruption case is said to be at a critical stage.

Yaqut Cholil Qoumas expressed gratitude for being able to celebrate Eid with his family during house arrest. Now, he has been returned to KPK detention in connection with the Hajj quota case.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially revoked the house arrest status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) and returned him to the KPK Detention Centre (Rutan).

Former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, or Noel, will apply for a change in detention status. Noel is currently detained by the KPK as a suspect in an alleged extortion case.

Former KPK investigator Praswad Nugraha has launched sharp criticism at the KPK Spokesperson regarding the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas becoming house arrest.
