KPK Will Not Duplicate Corruption Case Handling of Free Nutritious Meals Programme Currently Investigated by Attorney General's Office

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it will not duplicate or repeat the handling of the alleged corruption case in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme within the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), which is currently being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office. “The KPK does not duplicate law enforcement processes for cases that have been handled by other law enforcement agencies,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday. He added that the KPK is open to coordination with the Attorney General’s Office in handling the ongoing case. “In the criminal justice system, inter-agency law enforcement indeed requires good coordination so that case handling can run effectively, efficiently, and provide legal certainty,” he said. Meanwhile, he stated that the KPK’s main focus at present is ensuring that the legal processes in each institution can run optimally. “Thus, the objectives of law enforcement to uncover criminal events, hold involved parties accountable, and recover state losses can be achieved,” he said. Previously, on 3 June 2026, the Attorney General’s Office named former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, former BGN Deputy Head Lodewyk Pusung, and Sony Sanjaya as suspects in the alleged corruption case concerning the governance of the MBG programme. The Attorney General’s Office suspects the individuals appointed several foundations that did not meet requirements and had connections to them to become managers of MBG kitchens or Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). Additionally, investigators suspect there was price inflation in several procurements of goods and services, resulting in state financial losses. On 8 June 2026, the KPK revealed that the agency had conducted a preliminary inquiry into alleged corruption related to the MBG programme at BGN before the Attorney General’s Office announced the detention of the agency’s former leadership. On 17 June 2026, the KPK stated it had decided to temporarily suspend the preliminary inquiry related to MBG at BGN. A day later, the KPK also emphasised that the suspension of the inquiry was temporary, not permanent.
