KPK Will Not Duplicate Attorney General's Office Handling of MBG Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it will not duplicate the law enforcement process in the alleged corruption case concerning the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme currently being handled by the Attorney General’s Office. “The KPK is not duplicating the law enforcement process for a case that has been taken up by another law enforcement agency,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Friday (19/6). Budi said the KPK respects the steps and legal process currently being undertaken by the Attorney General’s Office. In the criminal justice system, he explained, inter-agency law enforcement requires good coordination so that case handling can proceed effectively, efficiently, and provide legal certainty. “The current main focus is to ensure the legal process runs optimally according to each institution’s authority, so that the objectives of law enforcement—to uncover criminal acts, hold involved parties accountable, and recover state losses—can be achieved,” he stated. On the other hand, Budi continued, the KPK’s role and duties in this issue are not limited to enforcement. The KPK had previously conducted a study and identified various potential corruption risks related to the programme’s governance. Therefore, the KPK will continue to monitor and coordinate with ministries, agencies, and relevant parties to follow up on the recommendations resulting from the study. “For the KPK, eradicating corruption is considered complete not only when the legal process is concluded, but also through strengthening the prevention system so that potential irregularities do not recur,” Budi revealed. “Therefore, following up on recommendations for governance improvement is an important part of ensuring that strategic government programmes can run effectively, accountably, and free from corrupt practices,” he added. Budi confirmed that the KPK will continue to support all law enforcement efforts and governance system improvements carried out by stakeholders, as part of a shared commitment to realising transparent and high-integrity state financial management.
