KPK Warns Regional Heads: Investigators Will Not Return Home, Do Not Commit Corruption
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has warned regional leaders not to commit corruption as investigators will not return home or take leave during the Eid holiday period.
Asep Guntur Rahayu, KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, explained that his staff will not be negligent even during the extended Eid holiday break. “There may still be a few days ahead, the 25th day of Ramadan, which means approximately five days from now. Do not think that because of Eid we want to return home and allow corruption to occur during this period,” said Asep when contacted on Monday (16 March).
The one-star police general ensured that investigators remain prepared to conduct enforcement operations if corrupt practices are discovered in the field. “We will continue to be present to take action if anyone stubbornly commits corruption offences,” Asep stated. “So, do not think that maybe the investigators will all go home. No. We will continue to work,” he added.
Asep explained that the enforcement measures taken by the KPK are a consequence of various previous prevention efforts being ignored by several state officials, including regional heads. He noted that Hand Catch Operations (OTT) conducted by the KPK are not merely illustrative cases, but serve as serious warnings to others not to engage in similar practices.
“Warnings have already been given, circulars have been distributed, but people continue to do it. It becomes our obligation to take enforcement action,” Asep stated firmly.
This statement was made following KPK arrests of at least three regional heads during this Ramadan period, namely the Bupati of Cilacap Syamsul Auliya Rachman, the Bupati of Rejang Lebong Muhammad Fikri Thobari, and the Bupati of Pekalongan Fadia Arafiq.
