KPK Urges Swift Recovery of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to Resume Legal Proceedings

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) hopes the health recovery process for Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, a suspect in an alleged hajj quota corruption case, can be accelerated. This hope was conveyed so that the former Minister of Religious Affairs can immediately resume the legal process, which is currently postponed due to health reasons. Yaqut is currently undergoing treatment at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital after investigators suspended his detention. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Yaqut’s condition is still under observation following surgery. The medical team at the hospital continues to monitor his recovery progress before determining the next medical steps. “Post-surgery, the medical team at Kramat Jati Hospital needs to observe the recovery progress of Mr YCQ,” Budi Prasetyo said on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. The KPK hopes the medical team can continue efforts to accelerate Yaqut’s recovery so that the investigation into the alleged hajj quota corruption case can proceed. According to Budi, investigators are currently working to complete the investigation of all suspects so that the case can move to the next stage, namely transfer to prosecution. Yaqut has been under a suspended detention since 24 June 2026. Two weeks after the decision was made, the KPK received information that the former minister was still in the recovery phase at the hospital. Previously, investigators decided to suspend Yaqut’s detention after a medical examination indicated he required inpatient care at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital. The decision was based on the recommendation of the medical team handling his condition. Budi explained that the suspension was carried out because Yaqut was suffering from a digestive tract disorder that required intensive medical treatment.
