KPK Urges Public to Report Extortion Schemes Disguised as Case Management
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged the public to be more vigilant against extortion schemes disguised as assistance in resolving corruption cases. The anti-graft body emphasised that all legal processes are conducted strictly according to prevailing regulations.
“We urge the public to always be alert and cautious if they encounter fraud, impersonation, or extortion schemes, or other methods using the KPK’s name, whether by individuals or institutions, offering to help manage cases,” said Acting KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7).
Taufik asked members of the public who encounter or fall victim to such extortion practices not to hesitate to report them. “Please report it either to the KPK or to the nearest and quickest law enforcement officers if you experience such incidents,” he continued.
He stressed that all mechanisms for investigating and resolving cases at the KPK are fully based on legal provisions, without any room for negotiation outside official channels. “When a case is to be resolved, we also follow procedural law, not negotiations or compromises outside the law,” Taufik stated.
This statement was made following the KPK’s official announcement of the detention of Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. On 28 July 2026, the KPK conducted a sting operation that resulted in the arrest of 21 individuals. Fourteen of them were brought to Jakarta for further examination, including five arrested in Jakarta, eight from Pemalang, and one from Purworejo.
The KPK revealed two main clusters in this case. The first involves alleged extortion by Anom Widiyantoro against Pemalang Regency officials and private parties, with Anom Widiyantoro and Gus Haris named as suspects. The second cluster uncovered alleged extortion against Anom Widiyantoro himself, carried out by a police officer assigned to the KPK, Setya Budi Dias, and his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, who have also been named as suspects.
