KPK Urges Public to Be Wary of Case-Fixing Scams
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked the public to be cautious about extortion schemes in the form of offers to settle suspected corruption cases.
“We urge the public to always remain alert and careful if they become aware of fraudulent schemes, impersonation, extortion, and other methods that invoke the name of the KPK, whether by individuals or institutions, claiming to be able to help resolve cases,” said the Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK’s Merah Putih building in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to Taufik, members of the public who believe they have been extorted through such schemes may report the matter to the KPK or other law enforcement agencies.
“Please report it to the KPK or the nearest and most readily available law enforcement authority if you encounter such incidents,” he said.
He explained that the mechanism for resolving an investigation at the KPK is grounded in the applicable legal provisions.
“When a case is to be resolved, we certainly do so on the basis of legal procedure, not through negotiation or compromises outside the rules of criminal procedure,” Taufik said.
He made the remarks after the KPK announced the detention of Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro.
Previously, on 28 July 2026, the KPK carried out its 18th sting operation of 2026. Among the 21 people arrested in that operation was Anom Widiyantoro.
The KPK then brought 14 of the 21 individuals to Jakarta for further questioning. They comprised five people arrested in Jakarta, eight from Pemalang, and one from Purworejo.
On 30 July 2026, Anom Widiyantoro and three others appeared before the public wearing the KPK’s orange vests after being named suspects.
Meanwhile, the case involves two clusters: first, alleged extortion by Anom Widiyantoro against officials of the Pemalang Regency Government and private parties; and second, alleged extortion by a police officer serving at the KPK, together with his father, against Anom Widiyantoro.
In the first cluster, the suspects are Anom Widiyantoro and Gus Haris. In the second cluster, the suspects are Setya Budi Dias, the police officer serving at the KPK, together with his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto.
