The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of the Republic of Indonesia has invited the people of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, to play an active role in preventing corruption practices by supervising public services and local government administration.

“We need the participation of the community to act as a balance and a control. Sometimes we only have administrative documents, but we need to know the facts occurring on the ground,” said Kunto Ariawan, Director of Community Participation Development at the KPK, in Palangka Raya on Friday.

To this end, he urged the public not to hesitate to report issues regarding public services or practices that could potentially lead to corruption. Such reports can be submitted to the KPK or the Palangka Raya City Inspectorate for follow-up as part of efforts to improve governance.

These statements were made during the Technical Guidance for the 2026 Anti-Corruption Regency/City programme held in Palangka Raya, following the city’s designation as a pilot project for anti-corruption. Kunto stated that the Anti-Corruption Regency/City programme is a KPK initiative to encourage the creation of model regions that implement clean, transparent, and accountable governance in every province. The programme, which began in 2024, aims to establish at least one model region in each province.

“In 2026, we are conducting observations of seven regencies/cities and have identified three candidates for anti-corruption model cities: Palangka Raya, Asahan Regency, and Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency,” he said.

He explained that in 2024, the KPK observed 15 regencies/cities and established four model areas: Badung Regency, Kulon Progo Regency, Payakumbuh City, and Surakarta City. In 2025, observations were conducted across 36 regions, resulting in three anti-corruption model areas: Blitar City, Mataram City, and North Minahasa Regency.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Palangka Raya, Fairid Naparin, expressed his appreciation for the KPK’s trust in his region. He noted that this achievement is the result of continuous efforts to improve governance.

“This is proof of the city government’s commitment to achieving greater openness, transparency, and improved public services. Before entering the top three, there was certainly a series of assessments and observations showing that Palangka Raya meets the established standards,” he stated.

Consequently, the Palangka Raya City Government remains open to suggestions, guidance, supervision, and assistance from the Corruption Eradication Commission as a strategic partner in strengthening clean and high-integrity governance.
