The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has requested that the Regent of Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Riau, Suhardiman Amby, and the Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency, Zulkarnain, immediately surrender themselves after the anti-graft agency conducted a sting operation (OTT) in the area. The request was made following the sting operation carried out by the KPK in Kuansing and Jakarta. Investigators believe the presence of both officials is required for the ongoing legal process. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the agency is urging Suhardiman Amby and Zulkarnain to be cooperative by complying with the investigators’ summons. ‘We urge the Regent and Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency to be cooperative and surrender themselves to the KPK,’ Budi Prasetyo said at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. According to Budi, investigators need testimony from the Kuansing Regent and Regional Secretary as part of developing the case currently being handled. He emphasised that the presence of these two state officials is important to uncover the alleged criminal acts that were the object of the sting operation. ‘Testimony from the regent and also the regional secretary is needed in the legal process currently underway at the KPK,’ he said. As of now, the KPK is still conducting examinations of the parties detained in the operation. During the sting operation in Kuansing and Jakarta, the KPK detained a total of 10 people. Of that number, five people were subsequently taken to the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta for further examination. In accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has a maximum of 1 x 24 hours from the time of arrest to determine the legal status of the parties detained in the sting operation. The sting operation in Kuansing is the 14th OTT conducted by the KPK throughout 2026. Previously, the KPK had carried out a number of sting operations in various regions and agencies. The series of OTTs includes: January 2026, an OTT for alleged bribery in tax audits at the North Jakarta Madya Tax Office, the arrest of Madiun Mayor Maidi, and Pati Regent Sudewo. February 2026 saw the arrest of the Head of the Banjarmasin Madya Tax Office, former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, Rizal, who was then serving as Head of the West Sumatra Customs Regional Office, Depok District Court Chief I Wayan Eka Mariarta, and Depok District Court Deputy Chief Bambang Setyawan. March 2026 included the arrests of Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq, Rejang Lebong Regent Muhammad, and Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman in separate operations. April 2026 saw the arrest of Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo. There were no sting operations conducted by the KPK in May 2026. In June 2026, the KPK conducted several OTTs, including one that led the Vice Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, to surrender himself, the arrest of Muara Enim Regent Edison, and a civil servant from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) in a follow-up OTT.
