KPK Urges Immediate Passage of Asset Forfeiture Bill, Citing Former Prosecutor's Case

The KPK has stressed that the Asset Forfeiture Bill currently under discussion in the House of Representatives (DPR) is a crucial instrument for more effective corruption eradication. KPK Director of Gratification and Public Services, Arif Waluyo, stated that the bill’s enactment would mark a legal revolution, significantly enhancing the country’s ability to tackle graft. He noted that the current system, which relies heavily on the State Administrators’ Wealth Report (LHKPN), is often undermined by a lack of transparency, with officials failing to update their reports despite significant increases in assets. The urgency of the bill is further highlighted by recent corruption cases, including one involving a former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes. Separately, political analyst Bawono Kumoro argued that the bill’s discussion is timely, coinciding with the new Criminal Procedure Code. Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad confirmed that the House leadership has permitted Commission III to continue deliberating the bill during the recess period.
