KPK Urged to Seek Clarification Regarding TikTok 'Tips' Received by Former Finance Minister
Public policy observer Trubess Rahardiansyah believes that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) needs to summon Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to seek clarification regarding gifts or ‘tips’ received during a live broadcast on TikTok alongside his son, Yuda Purboyo Sunu. The KPK must clarify and investigate this matter, particularly because Purbaya conducted the TikTok live stream while still serving as the Minister of Finance.
“In my view, this issue must be clarified immediately. The KPK must also be transparent and open regarding this ‘tipping’ issue, as it concerns the reputation of both the institution and Mr Purbaya,” said Trubus on Thursday (17/9).
Previously, the KPK requested that Purbaya consult or report such gifts if there were doubts regarding potential gratification. The KPK also appreciated Purbaya’s caution and suggested that the gift-receiving feature be disabled if he conducts future live broadcasts on TikTok.
Trubus stated that clarity in handling the matter is essential to prevent the public perception that the issue is being left unresolved. “If there is no clarity, the public may form assumptions that the matter is being overlooked or not followed up. Therefore, at the very least, there must be clarification and coordination with the KPK,” he explained.
He assessed that as a public official at the time the event occurred, Purbaya has a responsibility to provide an open explanation. According to Trubus, such a step is part of the principle of accountability within good governance.
“As a public official, there is accountability and responsibility to the community. Therefore, there should be an intention to clarify and coordinate with the KPK so that the matter becomes clear,” he said.
Trubus added that a transparent resolution is also important to provide a clear standard for other public officials when facing similar situations. “If such an issue is not fully explained, it could set a bad precedent for the bureaucracy, as it might be viewed as something commonplace and subsequently imitated by others,” he concluded.
Purbaya admitted that he had left the possibility open for himself to step down as Finance Minister before President Prabowo Subianto announced the reshuffle of fiscal leadership positions.
During the occasion, Purbaya wore a long-sleeved batik with a dominant dark blue motif paired with light blue and white patterns.
He also emphasised that positions within the Ministry of Finance must be carried out by prioritising integrity.
Meanwhile, the allocation listed in the current indicative ceiling stands at only Rp6.7 trillion.
