KPK Updates: 18 Arrested in Sting Operation Involving Sukoharjo Regent
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has updated previously released information, stating that it initially arrested 18 people in connection with a sting operation (OTT) that ensnared Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani.
“In the course of events following the arrests, the team carried out preliminary examinations of 18 people at the Surakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Central Java,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Red-and-White Building in Jakarta on Friday.
Budi said the KPK subsequently brought nine of the 18 individuals to the KPK’s Red-and-White Building for intensive questioning.
“The first group of four people has already arrived at the KPK’s Red-and-White Building. One of them is the Regent of Sukoharjo, whilst the other three are civil servants (ASN) from the Sukoharjo Regency area in Central Java,” he said.
Budi said the remaining five people were brought in a second group, comprising three civil servants from the Sukoharjo Regency Government and two private individuals.
“Those parties were secured in the Wonogiri area, Solo, and also Sukoharjo,” he said.
Earlier, the KPK confirmed it had conducted a sting operation against Etik Suryani. The operation was the 16th carried out by the KPK in 2026.
The KPK also said the operation was linked to allegations of extortion committed by Etik against officials within the Sukoharjo Regency Government in Central Java.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 1 x 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested in the operation.
