Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) considers the alleged extortion method carried out by Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo using a statement letter to be a horrifying practice.

“Bound in the form of a statement letter. Just add the date when considered disobedient, then the letter takes effect. This is very horrifying,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK’s Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Saturday night.

Asep explained that the method involves a resignation statement letter from the position and civil servant (ASN) status that has been signed by the head of the regional device organisation (OPD) and affixed with a stamp, although without a date.

“So far, this is a new finding for us. We are also becoming alert so that patterns like this are not imitated,” he said.

Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) in the Tulungagung area, East Java, on 10 April 2026.

The following day, on 11 April 2026, the KPK brought Gatut Sunu along with his younger sibling and 11 others to Jakarta for further examination.

On the same day, the KPK named Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his aide Dwi Yoga Ambal as suspects in the alleged extortion case and other receipts in the Tulungagung Regency Government environment for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
