KPK Transfers Langkat Regent Syah Afandin to Jakarta
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained seven individuals in a sting operation in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The seven individuals consist of Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, one civil servant, and five private sector representatives. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that investigators would bring Syah Afandin to Jakarta for further examination. “The Langkat Regent is being brought to Jakarta for further examination,” Budi told reporters on Friday, 3 July 2026. Budi explained that investigators are only bringing the Langkat Regent to Jakarta. “Only one person is being brought to Jakarta, the Regent. He is scheduled to arrive at the Merah Putih building this afternoon,” he said. Previously, the KPK revealed the sting operation in Langkat Regency was related to alleged bribery involving projects at the Education Agency and the Housing and Settlement Areas Agency. “This case is suspected to be related to bribery for projects at the Langkat Regency Education Agency and also the Housing Agency,” Budi stated. Budi explained that investigators will certainly investigate other allegations, such as receipts or gratuities received by the Regent. “It will be investigated and traced whether there were other receipts or gratuities made by the regent or state officials in the Langkat area,” he clarified.
