KPK to submit graft cases to court

JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is expected to hand over its indictment against two government officials allegedly involved in a high-profile graft case soon.

KPK deputy chairman Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean said on Wednesday that his office would submit within two weeks the indictment against former finance division head of the directorate general for marine transportation of the Ministry of Communications Harun Letlet and former secretary of the directorate general Tarsisius Walla.

"We will submit it within two weeks as we expect to start the prosecution soon," he said.

The KPK has named both suspects in the mark up of the price of a plot of land measuring 14.5 hectares that the Ministry of Communications bought to develop a seaport in Tual, Maluku, resulting in state losses worth over Rp 10 billion (US$1.10 million).

Both suspects have been detained in Salemba Penitentiary. The case will be the second brought by the commission to the antigraft court. -- JP
