KPK to Seek Maximum Sentence as Fahd Arafiq Becomes a Suspect for the Third Time

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it will seek to maximise the criminal sentencing of Golkar Party deputy chairman Fahd El Fouz, also known as Fahd Arafiq, after he recorded a hattrick of becoming a suspect for the third time in alleged corruption cases.

“We will maximise the sentencing against FF (Fahd), given that this is the third occasion,” said Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK’s Merah Putih building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to Taufik, the KPK will push for this because Fahd Arafiq potentially faces a heavy sentence.

“Under legal doctrine, a repeat offender is treated more severely than someone committing a criminal act for the first time,” he said.

Fahd Arafiq had previously been named a suspect in an alleged corruption case concerning the budget allocation for the Regional Infrastructure Development Acceleration Programme (PPID) in 2011.

In addition, Fahd Arafiq was previously a suspect in alleged corruption cases involving the procurement of Al-Qurans in 2011-2012 and the procurement of computer laboratories at Islamic junior secondary schools (MTs) in 2011 at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

For the third case, the KPK named Fahd Arafiq as one of the suspects in alleged corruption within the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN).

Fahd Arafiq, together with former Regent of Kebumen Arif Sugiyanto as well as private individuals named Erwin and Muhammad Fakhry, are alleged to be trusted associates of Minister of ATR/BPN Nusron Wahid.

In addition to them, Director General of Land and Spatial Control and Enforcement at the Ministry of ATR/BPN Lampri, Head of the Bogor Regency Land Office I Sontang Coin Manurung, President Director of PT Summarecon Agung Tbk Adrianto Pitojo Adhi, and Rizal Pahlevi as a private party or intermediary for Summarecon were also named suspects by the KPK.
