KPK to Proceed with Evidence Phase in Yaqut Case Following Rejected Pre-Trial Motion
Jakarta — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it will proceed with the evidence phase in the corruption case involving the hajj quota scheme, which targets former Religion Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Prosecution and Execution at the KPK, stated that the South Jakarta District Court’s rejection of Yaqut’s pre-trial motion clears the way for the KPK to advance to the next stage of legal proceedings.
“With today’s ruling, we can proceed to the next phase, which relates to the presentation of evidence,” Asep told reporters on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
According to him, during the pre-trial proceedings, the KPK respected the legal process initiated by Yaqut, so the handling of the case was not initially focused on substantive evidence presentation.
“During the pre-trial motion, we respected the process that was being pursued. Going forward, we will focus more on handling the case,” said Asep.
Previously, the South Jakarta District Court rejected the pre-trial motion filed by Yaqut against the KPK regarding his suspect status in the hajj quota corruption case.
Single judge Sulistyo Muhamad Dwi Putro of the South Jakarta District Court ruled that the KPK already possessed two pieces of evidence, which were sufficient to establish Yaqut’s status as a suspect.
