KPK to probe Bali graft case

JAKARTA: Bali Corruption Watch, an non-governmental organization (NGO), submitted on Friday documents as evidence of graft involving members of Karangasem regental legislature to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) here.

Putu Wirata Dwifor, the NGO chairman, said 35 former members of Karangasem legislature shared Rp 3.216 billion (US$349,565) in service funds, which was taken from the legislative body's budget in the current fiscal year.

Three of the councillors received Rp 33.25 million each, one received Rp 83 million and the rest Rp 100 million each.

The funds were disbursed not in a transparent way, indicating a corruption practice said Putu.

KPK Jakarta deputy chairman Ery Riyana Hardjapamekas promised to investigate the case. -- JP
