KPK to Investigate Information Leaks in Sting Operations Targeting Kuansing and Langkat Regents

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating a suspected leak of information regarding sting operations (OTT) in Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau, and Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated that the probe was launched after Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby and Langkat Regent Syah Afandin allegedly became aware of the operations being conducted by investigators. “So, the KPK team still needs to conduct further investigations into this matter,” Taufik said at the Merah Putih Building on Saturday, 4 July 2026. In addition to the investigation, the KPK will evaluate the execution of sting operations to minimise the potential for information leaks in future operations. “We will also evaluate whether going to the field should not be done together or in a group, or what the approach should be, to avoid situations where information might not leak from within, but is suspected by external parties, thus reaching our target,” he said. Taufik emphasised that his party can still trace alleged criminal acts even if the target is aware of the KPK operation. “Crime is never perfect. Crime always leaves traces,” he said. Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation in Kuantan Singingi Regency and Jakarta on 29 June 2026. During the operation, the KPK suspected that information about the sting had leaked, leading Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby and Kuantan Singingi Regional Secretary Zulkarnain to be asked to surrender. In a sting operation in Binjai, Langkat, and Medan, North Sumatra, the KPK also stated that Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim, allegedly knew about the arrival of the investigation team, causing him to change the plan for a handover of Rp100 million. Suhardiman Amby, Zulkarnain, and Syah Afandin have now been named as suspects by the KPK in the alleged corruption case.
