KPK to Hand Over Yaqut's Case Files After 2026 Hajj
JAKARTA — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated that the transfer of case files in the alleged 2023-2024 hajj quota corruption case involving former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas will occur after the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, explained the delay is due to several witnesses in the case serving as Hajj officials in 2026.
“Regarding the transfer, this is also linked to the current Hajj pilgrimage. Yesterday, we coordinated with the Hajj Ministry regarding the Hajj operations as there are numerous witnesses who are also Hajj officials and will testify in court,” Asep said at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.
“We must ensure that those involved are not conducting Hajj duties during the trial, which could disrupt the pilgrimage,” he added.
Besides Yaqut, the KPK has also detained another suspect, Stasus Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, alias Gus Alex, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
Both are charged under Articles 2 and 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law (UU Tipikor) concerning state losses.
According to KPK and BPK calculations, the state loss from this corruption case amounts to Rp 622 billion.
