KPK to Examine Regional Military Commander's Aide in Riau Governor's Money Laundering Case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it requires testimony from witness Novan Alyendo, an aide to the Commander of Military Region XIX/Tuanku Tambusai (Riau-Kepulauan Riau). This step is being taken to uncover the flow of money involving suspended Riau Governor Abdul Wahid and his aide, Marjani, who has been named a suspect. Novan was previously summoned for questioning on Thursday, 2 July 2026, but sent a letter explaining his absence. ‘The KPK needs further clarification from the military commander’s aide to complete the case file for suspect Marjani, but due to other commitments, the aide was unable to attend and will be rescheduled by the investigation team,’ said Acting Director of KPK Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein in a written statement on Monday (6 July). Taufik confirmed the suspicion that Abdul Wahid channelled funds through the aide of the Pangdam XIX. ‘Yes, that is the allegation, just follow the trial proceedings later,’ he said. In addition to Novan, the KPK had also scheduled the examination of five other witnesses on Thursday (2 July) at the BPK Riau Province office. These witnesses included Mega Listari and Muhammad Syahrul Amin, who worked as servers at the Governor’s official residence; Netti Ferawati, a household manager; and two members of the Riau Provincial DPRD, Suyadi from the PDI Perjuangan faction and Siti Aisyah from the PKB faction. The KPK had previously detained Marjani on 13 April 2026 in connection with alleged extortion and/or gratification, and the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, Abdul Wahid, the suspended Riau Governor, is currently standing trial at the Corruption Court in Pekanbaru. He is charged with extortion or receiving gratuities amounting to IDR 3.55 billion, allegedly committed together with the Head of the Riau Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, Muh Arief Setiawan, and other officials, with their cases being heard separately.
