KPK Temporarily Halts Investigation into MBG Corruption Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has decided to temporarily halt its investigation into alleged corruption related to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme within the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) is currently prosecuting the corruption case at the BGN.
“I think if coercive measures or anything else have already been taken, we certainly do not need to carry out any further activities for the time being, because at that time our stage was still an inquiry,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
Furthermore, Setyo stated that the KPK trusts the performance of the Attorney General’s Office in investigating the ongoing case related to the MBG at the BGN. “We believe that law enforcement officers are carrying out their duties to the best of their ability. We can see the transparency, everything has been published, and that is part of the openness in the law enforcement process,” he said.
Meanwhile, before attending a working meeting at the House of Representatives (DPR), he also briefly answered journalists’ questions regarding coordination between the KPK and the Kejagung. “The investigation process is already underway. Many things have been done by the Attorney General’s Office. For now, we will just see. If coordination is indeed needed, then it will be coordinated,” he said.
Previously, on 3 June 2026, the Kejagung named former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana and former BGN Deputy Heads Lodewyk Pusung and Sony Sanjaya as suspects in a case of alleged corruption in the governance of the MBG programme.
According to the Kejagung, one of the methods used by the former BGN leadership was to appoint several foundations that did not meet the requirements and were affiliated with them to become MBG kitchens or Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). They are then alleged to have received benefits from these foundations.
Additionally, the Kejagung suspects they engaged in mark-ups or price inflation on a number of goods and services procurements, causing state financial losses. On 8 June 2026, the KPK revealed it had been conducting an inquiry into the alleged corruption related to the MBG at the BGN when the Kejagung announced the detention of the former BGN leadership.
