KPK: Syah Afandin's campaign team received 85 projects worth IDR 10.2 billion

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu’arif (YQB), a member of Bupati Langkat Syah Afandin’s (SAF) campaign team during the 2024 regional elections, obtained 85 projects within the Langkat Regency Government worth IDR 10.2 billion. “In 2025, YQB, as a private party and SAF’s campaign team, received work packages in the Education Agency and the Housing and Settlement Agency (Perkim) of Langkat through a direct appointment method,” said Acting Director of KPK Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday night. Taufik explained that the 85 projects consisted of 80 work packages at the Langkat Education Agency worth IDR 9.5 billion, and five work packages at the Langkat Housing and Settlement Agency worth IDR 748 million. However, he stated that Yaqub had to provide compensation for the execution of the dozens of projects to Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim. According to him, Ondim requested a 10 per cent kickback for the Education Agency projects and 17 per cent for the Housing and Settlement Agency projects. The KPK previously conducted a sting operation in Langkat, Binjai, and Medan, North Sumatra, on 2 July 2026. During the operation, the KPK arrested Ondim, a civil servant in Langkat Regency, and five individuals from the private sector. On 3 July 2026, the KPK named Ondim and his former campaign team member from the 2024 regional elections, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu’arif, as suspects in a suspected bribery case involving projects within the Langkat Regency Government for the 2025-2026 period. Ondim is suspected of receiving a bribe of IDR 800 million from Yaqub out of a total agreed amount of IDR 1.117 billion.
