KPK Suspects Pemuda Pancasila Chairman Controls Assets from Corruption Proceeds
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that the Chairperson of Pemuda Pancasila (PP), Japto Soerjosoemarno, controls a number of assets allegedly derived from criminal acts of corruption involving the former Regent of Kutai Kartanegara, Rita Widyasari, and three corporations.
Investigators have been delving into these allegations through examinations conducted on Tuesday (30/6). Japto was questioned in his capacity as a witness.
“There are allegations that assets under the control of JPT [Japto], which were subsequently seized, are related to the alleged receipt of gratifications by the suspects,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed via written message on Wednesday (1/7).
“The seizure of these assets is intended not only for the evidentiary process in this case but also for asset recovery in the initial stage,” he added.
The assets include Indonesian Rupiah and foreign currency totalling Rp56 billion, 11 vehicles (including Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser, Mercedes Benz, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Coldis, and Suzuki), as well as documents and Electronic Evidence (BBE).
“These assets are allegedly related to the business processes within the coal governance in Kutai Kartanegara,” said Budi.
“If we look at the coal management in its entirety, from the production process and packaging at the site to the transportation, we recognise the involvement of hauling services, pier services, and security services during the transportation process. All of these are being investigated,” he continued.
Previously, the KPK stated that Japto received ‘security’ payments from the mining proceeds of PT Alamjaya Barapratama.
When questioned regarding his role, Japto has left the matter entirely to the KPK investigators and his legal team.
The KPK has recently named three coal companies in Kutai Kartanegara as suspects in a suspected corruption case. The case remains linked to Rita Widyasari in her capacity as the former Regent of Kutai Kartanegara.
The three companies designated as suspects by the KPK, based on the Investigation Order (Sprindik) issued last February, are PT Sinar Kumala Naga, PT Alamjaya Barapratama, and PT Bara Kumala Sakti.
All three are coal-producing companies located in the Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which are alleged to have been used as instruments for receiving gratifications for Rita.
