KPK Suspects Muara Enim Regent Ordered Education Secretary to Receive Kickbacks

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that Muara Enim Regent Edison (EDS) instructed Muara Enim Education and Culture Agency Secretary Abi Nurwardani (ABN) to receive payments from contractors within the Muara Enim Regency Government, South Sumatra. “ABN, on the orders of EDS as Muara Enim Regent for the 2025-2030 period, allegedly received cash payments from contractors within the Muara Enim Regency Government,” said Acting Director of KPK Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to Taufik, Edison’s orders to Abi were not limited to contractors from the Muara Enim Education and Culture Agency but also included other agencies. “This is suspected to not only involve the Education and Culture Agency,” he said. He stated that Abi received money when meeting Cory at a hotel in Jakarta on 6 June 2026. “At that meeting, ABN allegedly received cash worth Rp500 million from CRH,” he said. In the 12th sting operation conducted by the KPK throughout 2026, Edison was one of ten people arrested. On 9 June 2026, the KPK named Edison as one of four suspects in a case of suspected bribery related to the procurement of goods and services and other receipts within the Muara Enim Regency Government for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The three other suspects are Abi Nurwardani, Cory Erin Hardi, and Adi Triyadi, who is Edison’s nephew.
