KPK Suspects Kuansing Regent and Secretary Involved in Position Auction Bribery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects the Regent of Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Riau, Suhardiman Amby, and the Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency, Zulkarnain, are involved in a bribery scheme involving the sale of official positions.
“That is the suspicion. This bribery is allegedly intended for the position of Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Consequently, Budi stated that the KPK has requested Suhardiman and Zulkarnain to surrender themselves. On the other hand, Budi added that the KPK is still attempting to locate both individuals, involving the Riau Regional Police in the process.
“In this matter, the KPK is also intensely coordinating with the Riau Regional Police ranks to conduct a search for the parties concerned,” he said.
Budi mentioned that the KPK is currently investigating potential information leaks regarding the sting operation (OTT). “We will continue to trace that information. What is certain is that the team is conducting searches for the relevant parties, including the Regent and the Regional Secretary, whose current whereabouts remain unknown,” he added.
In the KPK’s 14th sting operation of 2026, the anti-corruption agency has arrested ten individuals in both Kuansing and Jakarta. Five of these ten individuals have been brought to the KPK Merah Putih Building for questioning. Nevertheless, the KPK has called upon the Regent of Kuansing, Suhardorkan Amby, and the Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency, Zulkarnain, to surrender.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested during a sting operation.
Previously, the KPK conducted its first sting operation of 2026 by arresting eight people between 9–10 January. This arrest concerned alleged bribery in tax audits within the North Jakarta Medium Tax Office under the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, for the 2021–2026 period.
In the same month, the KPK arrested the Mayor of Madiun, Maidi, in its second operation, and the Regent of Pati, Sudewo, in its third. In February 2026, the KPK arrested the Head of the Banjarmasin Medium Tax Office, South Kalimantan, in its fourth operation. During the same month, the KPK also arrested the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Rizal, who is currently serving as the Head of the West Sumatra Regional Customs Office, in its fifth operation.
Additionally, the KPK arrested the Chairperson of the Depok District Court, I Wayan Eka Mariarta, and the Deputy Chairperson of the Depok District Court, Bambang Setyawan, in its sixth operation. In March 2026, coinciding with Ramadan, the KPK arrested the Regent of Pekalongan, Fadia Arafiq, the Regent of Rejang Lebong, Muhammad Fikri Thobari, and the Regent of Cilacap, Syamsul Auliya Rachman, each in separate sting operations.
In April 2026, the KPK arrested the Regent of Tulungagung, Gatut Sunu Wibowo, in its 10th operation. However, throughout May 2026, there were no KPK sting operations. In June 2026, the KPK conducted another operation which led to the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, surrendering himself. Subsequently, the KPK arrested the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, in its 12th operation, and arrested an official from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) in its 13th operation, which was a follow-up to a previous sting operation.
