KPK Suspects Immigration Officials Continue Extorting Foreigners Despite Sting Operation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that the Directorate General of Immigration, at the immigration office level, is still engaging in extortion practices against foreign nationals. This persists despite a sting operation (OTT) conducted in June 2024.

“Following the sting operation, the KPK suspects that the practices of receiving money by certain individuals within Immigration are still ongoing,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Consequently, Budi stated that the KPK has conducted further searches at several immigration offices suspected of continuing these extortion practices. “During the investigation stage, the KPK subsequently carried out searches at several immigration offices suspected of engaging in similar practices,” he said.

On the other hand, he noted that some immigration offices have ceased the alleged extortion. Some offices have even returned money obtained from practices conducted prior to the sting operation to the KPK.

“For example, what occurred recently in Bali. What was seized was money suspected to have been received previously,” he added.
