KPK Suspects Hilman Latief Received Rp150 Million from Maktour Director
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission suspects Hilman Latief (HL), while serving as Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organising at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, of receiving approximately Rp150 million from Ismail Adham (ISM), Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja or Maktour.
“ISM is suspected of giving a sum of money to HL, as Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organising at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, amounting to US$5,000 and SAR16,000,” said Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Asep Guntur Rahayu, at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Monday.
Based on the exchange rate on Monday (30/3), US$5,000 is equivalent to Rp84 million, while SAR16,000 is equivalent to Rp72 million. Thus, the KPK suspects Hilman Latief received around Rp156 million.
Asep explained that Ismail Adham, who has now been named as one of the suspects in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, gave the money to Hilman while he was Director General at the Ministry of Religious Affairs as a representation of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ).
“The receipt of the money by HL from the suspects is suspected to be as a representation of YCQ, who was the Minister of Religious Affairs at the time,” he said.
Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK began investigating the alleged corruption case related to Indonesia’s Hajj quota for 2023-2024.
On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, as Yaqut’s special staff, as suspects in the case.
Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of the Maktour Hajj organiser, was not named as a suspect, although he was once banned from leaving the country.
Then, on 4 March 2026, the KPK announced that the state financial losses from the case amounted to Rp622 billion.
On 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut Cholil at the KPK’s Red and White Building State Detention House branch.
Subsequently, on 17 March 2026, the KPK detained Gus Alex at the KPK’s Central Anti-Corruption Education Detention House branch.
On the same date, Yaqut Cholil’s family requested the KPK to allow the former minister to be under house arrest. The KPK granted the request, and Yaqut has been under house arrest since 19 March 2026.
On 23 March 2026, the KPK announced it was processing the transfer of Yaqut Cholil’s detention from house arrest back to detention centre. On 24 March 2026, Yaqut officially became a detainee at the KPK Detention Centre.
On 30 March 2026, the KPK announced two new suspects in the case. They are Maktour’s Operational Director Ismail Adham and Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Union (Kesthuri), Asrul Aziz Taba.
