KPK Suspects Corruption in New Student Admissions Occurring at Other Universities, Not Just Unila and Unsoed

The Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) suspects that corruption related to new student admissions is not limited to the University of Lampung (Unila) and Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed).

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the agency suspects such corruption is also occurring at other campuses. “The suspected practices of conditioning the new student admission process are not only happening at Unila or Unsoed, but are also suspected to be common at other universities,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.

Budi noted that the KPK is urging members of the public who are aware of suspected corruption in student admissions to report it to the anti-corruption agency. “The KPK can certainly intervene when there is a suspicion of a criminal act of corruption occurring in other locations or at other campuses,” he said.

Budi explained that once the public reports such suspected corruption, the KPK will immediately conduct a review. “It will be reviewed and analysed to determine the follow-up, and how the KPK’s approach will be will depend on the issues presented by the public,” he revealed.

In addition to urging the public, he stated that the KPK is also requesting higher education institutions to seriously improve their new student admission processes to ensure greater integrity. “This must be done with concrete steps. It cannot stop at mere commitment; real efforts to improve the system must be implemented,” said Budi.

The KPK previously conducted a sting operation (OTT) regarding alleged bribery in new student admissions at Unila in August 2022. In that case, the KPK named the Rector of Unila, Prof Karomani, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof Heryandi, the Chairman of the Unila Senate, Muhammad Basri, and Andi Desfiandi, a private individual, as suspects.

Four years later, in 2026, the KPK conducted another sting operation regarding alleged corruption in student admissions at Unsoed. The KPK subsequently named the Rector of Unsoed, Prof Akhmad Sodiq, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof Norman Arie Prayogo, the Head of Academic Affairs at Unsoed, Eko Sumanto, Mulyono (Sodiq’s nephew), as well as Dian Mulia Wardhana and Adhi Wiharto acting as intermediaries, as suspects in the Unsoed student admission corruption case.
