KPK Supervisory Board to Immediately Examine Administrative Staff Member Named as Extortion Suspect

The Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) Supervisory Board (Dewas) will question a National Police officer serving at the KPK as the agency’s administrative staff, Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto, who has been named a suspect in an alleged extortion case.

Dewas member Benny Mamoto said he had coordinated with the KPK’s Enforcement Deputy regarding Dias’s examination.

He said the board needs information from Dias as material for an internal evaluation at the KPK.

“I have already coordinated with the Enforcement Deputy to arrange the timing of the examination of this individual, D, because the board requires information that is as complete as possible for us to study and analyse where the weaknesses lie, as material for improvements going forward,” Benny said at the KPK Supervisory Board office on Monday (3/8).

Benny also asked all parties to await the results of the KPK’s investigation into the case.

“The investigation into this case is of course transparent, supported by the existing evidence, including the contents of the relevant person’s mobile phone being fully opened, his communications and so on, his parents and so on. From there it will become clear how far the scope reaches and who else is involved,” he said.

On the same occasion, KPK Supervisory Board Chairman Gusrizal said the board would process Dias in accordance with applicable regulations.

Gusrizal touched on Dias’s status as a serving police officer.

“We will certainly process him according to the prevailing rules, whether it falls under the code of ethics. The issue now is that the person concerned is a police officer, so we need to be careful about the report,” Gusrizal said.

He said that if Dias’s case were handed over to the police, the KPK Supervisory Board would not be able to examine the alleged ethics violations.

“Whether he is returned to the police force, in which case the board would not be authorised to conduct an examination. Nevertheless, we will still carry out an examination for evaluation purposes, so that it does not happen again in the future,” he said.

The KPK has named four people as suspects in connection with the alleged extortion case within the Pemalang Regency government in Central Java Province.

They are Pemalang Regent for the 2025-2030 period, Anom Widiyantoro; Anom’s confidant, Mohamad Haris alias Gus Haris; the police officer serving at the KPK as the agency’s administrative staff, Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto; and Dias’s father, Lilik Budi Suprianto (private citizen). Dias is also known to have served as an aide to KPK leadership.

The suspects have been detained for the first 20 days from 30 July until 18 August 2026. The detention is being carried out at the KPK’s Red-and-White Building Detention House branch.
