KPK summons seven hajj organisers, four in East Java and three in Jakarta
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned seven individuals from hajj organising bureaus as witnesses in the investigation into alleged corruption regarding the 2023-2024 hajj quota.
The examinations are taking place at the East Java Representative Office of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) and the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Budi explained that the four witnesses examined in East Java are NR, Director of PT Al Madinah Mutiara Sunnah; FN, President Director of PT Aliston Buana Wisata; NA, Director of PT Barokah Dua Putri Mandiri; and BK, Director of PT Kamilah Wisata Muslim.
Meanwhile, the three witnesses examined in Jakarta are HRA, Director of PT Madani Prabu Jaya; AAB, President Director of PT An Naba International; and KS, Director of PT Ananda Dar Al Haromain.
On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, special staff to Yaqut, as suspects in the case.
Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of the hajj organiser Maktour, was not designated as a suspect despite previously being banned from leaving the country.
On 27 February 2026, the KPK received the audit results from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia regarding state financial losses in the hajj quota case. The KPK then announced on 4 March 2026 that the state financial loss amounted to Rp622 billion.
On the same date, Yaqut Cholil’s family submitted a request for the former Minister of Religious Affairs to be placed under house arrest. The KPK granted the request, allowing Yaqut to undergo house arrest from 19 March 2026. However, on 24 March 2026, the KPK re-detained Yaqut at the KPK Detention Centre after processing the change in detention status.
The KPK subsequently named two new suspects on 30 March 2026: Ismail Adham, Operational Director of Maktour, and Asrul Aziz Taba, Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Union (Kesthuri).
