KPK summons nine witnesses from East Java and Jakarta Hajj bureaus
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned nine individuals from Hajj organising bureaus (BPH) in East Java and Jakarta to be examined as witnesses in the alleged corruption case concerning the Hajj quota.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that the anti-corruption agency summoned four witnesses in East Java, while the other five are in Jakarta.
“The examinations will take place at the East Java Representative Office of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), and the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta,” Budi told journalists in Jakarta on Thursday.
He further explained that the four witnesses summoned in East Java consist of AM, as Operational Manager of PT Amsa Nur Indah Mandiri; HS, as Finance Director of PT Bumi Nata Wisata Tours and Travel; HMA, as Visa Manager of PT Faroq Sulaiman Al Fatah; and AKU, as Director of PT Tiga Cahaya Utama.
Meanwhile, the five witnesses summoned in Jakarta are NUR, as Hajj and Umrah Manager of PT Arfina Margi Wisata; KRI, as Staff in the Hajj Division of PT Arofah Satya Prakasa; SA, as Hajj Operational Staff of PT Arston Pesona Indonesia Tour; KZA, as Administrator of PT Baitulloh Kota Intan Wisata; and AAB, as Director of PT Balubaid Ikhwan.
Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK initiated an investigation into the alleged corruption case related to Indonesia’s Hajj quota for 2023-2024.
On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz, alias Gus Alex, as special staff to Yaqut, as suspects in the case.
Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, owner of BPH Maktour, was not designated as a suspect, although he was previously banned from leaving the country.
On 27 February 2026, the KPK received the audit results from the Financial Audit Board (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia regarding state financial losses in the Hajj quota case.
The KPK then announced on 4 March 2026 that the state financial losses amounted to Rp622 billion.
Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut Cholil at the KPK’s Red and White Building State Detention House Branch. On 17 March 2026, the KPK also detained Ishfah Abidal Aziz at the KPK’s Central Anti-Corruption Education Detention House Branch.
On the same date, Yaqut Cholil’s family filed a request for the former Minister of Religious Affairs to be placed under house arrest.
The KPK granted the request, so Yaqut has been under house arrest since 19 March 2026. However, on 24 March 2026, the KPK re-detained Yaqut at the KPK Detention House after previously processing the transfer of detention status.
The KPK then designated two new suspects on 30 March 2026, namely Maktour’s Operational Director Ismail Adham and the General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Agency Association (Kesthuri), Asrul Aziz Taba.
