KPK Summons Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Again This Week
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas for questioning as a suspect in a hajj quota corruption case this week. Yaqut was summoned following the rejection of his pre-trial motion.
“We have already summoned the individual concerned in the near term. He will be summoned first,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, KPK Deputy for Prosecution, at Jakarta South District Court on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Asep did not provide specific details about when Yaqut would be summoned, but stated that the summons would be issued this week.
“Currently, his status is that of a suspect. He is being summoned. This week,” he said.
When asked whether the KPK would detain Yaqut, Asep stated: “That matter — we shall see. We must consider many factors. We will see how the situation develops.”
Court Rejects Yaqut’s Pre-Trial Motion
Previously, a single judge at Jakarta South District Court rejected Yaqut’s pre-trial motion challenging his status as a suspect in the hajj quota corruption case. The judge declared Yaqut’s status as a suspect to be lawful.
“The court rejects the petitioner’s pre-trial motion in its entirety,” said Judge Sulistyo Muhamad Dwi Putro whilst reading out the judgment in pre-trial case number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL at Jakarta South District Court on Wednesday, 11 March.
The judge stated that the KPK’s designation of Yaqut as a suspect had been undertaken in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations. The judge determined that Yaqut’s pre-trial motion arguments fell within the merits of the case.
“The court assigns no case costs to the petitioner,” the judge said.
