KPK Summons Expert Staff of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Edi Suharto, Regarding the 2020 Social Assistance Corruption Case
The KPK has summoned Edi Suharto, an expert staff member at the Ministry of Social Affairs, in connection with the alleged corruption in the distribution of social assistance (bansos) rice in 2020. Edi has been named as a suspect in the case.
“Today, Thursday (26/2), the KPK has scheduled an examination of witnesses related to the alleged corruption in the distribution of social assistance (bansos) rice, for the recipients of the Family Hope Program (PKH),” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters, Thursday (26/2/2026).
“ES is a civil servant/expert staff member at the Ministry of Social Affairs, in the field of social change and dynamics, and has been the Director General of Social Empowerment from 2023 to the present,” he added.
In addition to Edi, the KPK has also summoned a witness named Hartono Laras, who is also a civil servant. The examination is being conducted in Bandung, West Java.
“The examination is being conducted at the Bandung Police Headquarters,” he said.
For information, in August 2025, the KPK announced that it had named five new suspects in the corruption case related to the distribution of social assistance at the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2020. The suspects consist of three individuals and two corporations.
The KPK has also prevented four people from traveling abroad in connection with this case. They are the President Commissioner of PT Dosni Roha, Bambang Rudijanto Tanoesoedibjo (BRT), the Director of Operations of DNR Logistics from 2021-2024, Herry Tho (HT), the Director of DNR Logistics from 2018-2022, Kanisius Jerry Tengker (KJT), and the Expert Staff of the Minister in the field of Social Change and Dynamics at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Edi Suharto (ES).
The KPK stated that this case is related to the distribution of five million aid packages in 15 provinces. Bambang Rudijanto Tanoesoedibjo and Edi Suharto are new suspects in this case. Rudy Tanoesoedibjo has filed a pre-trial motion, which has been rejected.
The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, has relieved Edi Suharto of his duties. The Ministry of Social Affairs supports the legal process carried out by the KPK, so this relief of duties was carried out so that Edi can focus on the legal process.
“Today, I also signed the order to relieve ES (Edi Suharto) of his duties, who has legal issues, until there is a final decision from the court,” said Gus Ipul to reporters at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Friday (3/10/2025).
