KPK summons businessman Muhammad Suryo in Customs case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned businessman Muhammad Suryo (MS) as a witness in the alleged corruption case within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance. In addition to him, the KPK has summoned businessmen Arief Harwanto (AH) and Johan Sugiharto (JS) as witnesses in the same case. The examination took place at the KPK’s Red and White Building for AH, MS, and JS as private sector parties,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Thursday. Muhammad Suryo was previously confirmed by KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak on 24 November 2023 as one of the suspects in the alleged bribery case for the construction and maintenance of railway lines within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation. Nevertheless, the confirmation from Johanis Tanak caused internal dynamics within the KPK, leading Acting KPK Chairman Nawawi Pomolango to state on 29 November 2023 that he would soon clarify the legal status of Muhammad Suryo. Previously, on 4 February 2026, the KPK conducted a raid operation (OTT) within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance. On the same date, the KPK revealed that one of the individuals arrested in the OTT was Rizal, Head of the West Sumatra Regional Customs Office. On 5 February 2026, the KPK announced that six out of 17 people arrested were subsequently named as suspects in the alleged bribery and gratifications case related to the importation of counterfeit or imitation goods within the Customs and Excise. They are Rizal (RZL), Director of Enforcement and Investigation of Customs and Excise from 2024 to January 2026, Head of the Sub-Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation Intelligence of Customs and Excise Sisprian Subiaksono (SIS), and Head of the Customs Intelligence Section Orlando Hamonangan (ORL). Furthermore, owner of Blueray Cargo John Field (JF), Chairman of the Import Documentation Team of Blueray Cargo Andri (AND), and Operational Manager of Blueray Cargo Dedy Kurniawan (DK). On 26 February 2026, the KPK announced Budiman Bayu Prasojo (BBP), Head of the Excise Intelligence Section of the Directorate of Enforcement and Investigation of Customs and Excise, as a new suspect in the case. On 27 February 2026, the KPK announced that it was deepening the investigation into alleged corruption in excise management. This deepening was conducted particularly after the seizure of Rp5.19 billion in five suitcases from a safe house in Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten, which is suspected to originate from customs and excise.
