The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned businessman Billy Haryanto, also known as Billy Beras, for examination as a witness, following a previous summons issued on 28 April 2026. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday that the examination was scheduled at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building for the individual, identified by the initials BIL, in his capacity as an entrepreneur. Budi explained that Billy was called as a witness in a suspected bribery case concerning railway construction and maintenance projects within the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation for the East Java region. According to KPK records, the witness complied with the summons and arrived at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building at 10.03 WIB. The case came to light after the KPK conducted a sting operation at the Class I Railway Engineering Centre for the Central Java Region on 11 April 2023, an institution now known as the Class I Railway Engineering Centre Semarang. In its investigation, the KPK initially named ten individuals as suspects and detained them in connection with alleged corruption in railway construction and maintenance projects across Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi. The case encompasses the Solo Balapan–Kadipiro–Kalioso double-track railway project, railway construction in Makassar, four construction projects and two supervision projects in Lampegan, Cianjur, as well as level crossing repair projects in Java and Sumatra. The KPK suspects that project winners were predetermined through manipulation of the procurement process, from the administrative stage through to the announcement of tender winners.
