KPK Summons 2 Private Secretaries of Tulungagung Regent as Witnesses in Extortion Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned two private secretaries of the inactive Tulungagung Regent, Gatut Sunu Wibowo, as witnesses in connection with an alleged corruption case involving extortion and other receipts in the Tulungagung Regency Government.
The two private secretaries of the regent are Aurel and Mega.
“The examination is being conducted at the East Java Representative Office of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP),” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
In addition to the two private secretaries of the regent, the KPK has also summoned two Heads of Departments of the Tulungagung Regency Government as witnesses, namely Suyanto as Head of the Agriculture Department and Reni Prasetiawati Septiwulan as Head of the Social Department.
However, Budi has not yet revealed the material that will be explored from today’s witness examination.
Previously, the KPK designated Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his aide Dwi Yoga Ambal as suspects in the extortion case within the Tulungagung Regency Government on Saturday (11/4/2026).
The KPK subsequently detained both suspects for the first 20 days from 11-30 April 2026 at the KPK’s Red and White Building Branch State Detention Centre (Rutan).
The officials were reportedly asked to sign statements of readiness to resign from their positions and as Civil Servants if they were unable to carry out the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them.
The letter, with the date left blank, is suspected to have been used as a tool of pressure against the heads of Regional Device Organisations in fulfilling requests from the regent, including when asked for money contributions.
“For those who are not loyal to the Regent, they are threatened with being removed from their positions or even resigning as Civil Servants,” he stated.
In practice, Gatut is also alleged to have requested a sum of money from 16 Regional Device Organisations.
From that addition, he requested up to 50 percent, even before the budget was disbursed.
