KPK Sting Operation Targets Unsoed Rector Over 'Manipulation' of Medical Faculty Admissions
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detected a layered system in the alleged collusion surrounding new student admissions at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed). The KPK made the statement in response to a corruption case that led to a sting operation in Purwokerto and Jakarta on Thursday (20/8/2026).
“There were indeed sums of money worth hundreds of millions of rupiah to gain admission as a student at the Faculty of Medicine there, and it is suspected that there was layering in the admissions process,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Friday (21/8/2026).
The KPK found that the manipulation of new student admissions occurred at the Faculty of Medicine. The anti-graft body revealed that the evidence secured so far amounts to hundreds of millions of rupiah, consistent with the high cost of entering a medical programme.
“Regarding the alleged receipt of payments by state officials within Unsoed, or Jenderal Soedirman University in Purwokerto, it is suspected to be related to student admissions, including at the Faculty of Medicine,” Budi said.
Earlier, the KPK arrested a number of individuals in Purwokerto, Banyumas, Central Java. One of those arrested was the Rector of Jenderal Soedirman University, Professor Akhmad Sodiq.
A total of 14 people were detained in the sting operation. Twelve were apprehended in the Purwokerto area, while two others were arrested in Jakarta. As of now, a total of nine people detained in the operation are undergoing questioning at the KPK.
The KPK confirmed that the sting operation concerns alleged payments received by state officials in the new student admissions process.
In addition to the Rector, the KPK confirmed that Unsoed Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Professor Noor Farid and Vice Rector for Student Affairs Professor Norman Arie Prayogo were also caught in the operation. The KPK has not yet detailed the names of the other suspects.
The KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested in the sting operation in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code.
