KPK Sting Operation Targets Muara Enim Regent Edison; Education Office Sealed

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (OTT) against the Regent of Muara Enim, South Sumatra Province, Edison, on Monday (8/6/2026). “It is true,” confirmed KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto via written message regarding the operation this afternoon. Fitroh was unable to provide extensive details regarding the covert operation as the KPK enforcement team remains active in the field.

According to various media reports, the sting operation was accompanied by the sealing of several government offices within the Muara Enim Regency, including the Office of the Education Department. This marks the second major sting operation conducted by the KPK in close proximity during June. Previously, the KPK dismantled an alleged extortion case involving foreign national stay permits and/or the receipt of gratifications within the Directorate General of Immigration for the 2022-2026 period, through operations held in Jakarta, West Java, and Bali on 2-3 June 2026.

Of the 18 individuals apprehended in that previous case, eight were named suspects based on sufficient preliminary evidence. Those suspects include the former Deputy Minister of Immigration for 2025-2026, Silmy Karim; the Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam; the Director of Stay Permits, Jaya Saputra; and Sub-directorate Heads within the Directorate of Stay Permits, Bagus Bramantyo and Tessar Bayu Setyaji. Additionally, the group included the Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office for 2024-2025 and West Jakarta Immigration Office for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah; the Head of the Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) Status Change Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi; and a Sub-directorate Staff member, Gusti Bernardiansyah.
