Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, in its twelfth sting operation (OTT) of 2026 in South Sumatra.

“It is true,” stated KPK Vice Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto to journalists in Jakarta on Monday.

On a separate occasion, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the anti-corruption agency arrested nine other individuals during the operation. “The team secured ten people in the Jakarta and South Sumatra regions. Five are from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the regent, and the other five are from the private sector,” said Budi.

The KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested in the sting operation, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

Previously, the KPK conducted its first sting operation of 2026 by arresting eight people between 9-10 January 2026, regarding alleged bribery in tax inspections at the North Jakarta Medium Tax Service Office under the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, for the 2021-2026 period.

The second operation, on 19 January 2026, saw the KPK arrest the Mayor of Madiun, Maidi. The seventh operation was announced on 3 March 2026, during Ramadan. The KPK named the Regent of Pekalongan, Fadia Arafiq, as the sole suspect in a corruption case involving the procurement of outsourcing services and other services within the Pekalongan Regency Government for the 2023-2026 fiscal year.

The eighth operation, also during Ramadan, saw the KPK arrest and name the Regent of Rejang Lebong, Muhammad Fikri Thobari, as a suspect in a project bribery case within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government, Bengkulu, for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

The ninth operation, also during Ramadan, was conducted by the KPK on 13 March 2026, resulting in the arrest of the Regent of Cilacap, Syamsul Auliya Rachman. Syamsul Auliya was subsequently named a suspect in an extortion and bribery case within the Cilacap Regency Government, Central Java, for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

In the tenth operation, on 10 April 2026, the KPK arrested the Regent of Tulungagung, Gatut Sunu Wibowo, and 17 others. Gatut Sunu was later named a suspect in an extortion and bribery case within the Tulungagung Regency Government for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

The eleventh operation was conducted between 2-3 June 2026. The KPK subsequently named eight individuals as suspects in an extortion case regarding the processing of foreign national residence permits within the Directorate General of Immigration, including the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim.
