KPK Sting Operation at West Jakarta Immigration: Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Affirms Respect for Legal Process

The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, has emphasised that his department respects the ongoing legal process regarding the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) sting operation (OTT) involving officials from the West Jakarta Immigration Office. Agus stated that he has issued strict directives to all ranks within the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their duties.

“We respect the ongoing legal process; our direction is clear,” Agus told reporters on Wednesday.

In a different location, the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, declined to provide further comment when questioned regarding allegations of his involvement in the case.

The KPK has confirmed that it conducted the sting operation against several officials from the West Jakarta Immigration Office related to suspected corruption. KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed the operation on Wednesday.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that the enforcement operation took place across West Jakarta, West Java, and Bali. During the operation, the KPK detained dozens of individuals, including the Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office.

“In terms of progress, over a dozen people have been detained in this series of sting operations. Evidence seized includes vehicles, motorcycles, cash, foreign currencies such as USD and SGD, as well as precious metals in the form of gold,” Budi stated.

Despite the operation, all immigration services provided to the public continue to operate as usual.
