The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation against the Regent of Rejang Lebong in Bengkulu Province, Muhammad Fikri Thobari, and several others in connection with allegations of project-related bribery.

“This sting operation is alleged to involve bribery related to projects within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government, so during intensive examination this morning, the detainees will certainly be thoroughly questioned regarding the case construction,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March.

Budi stated that KPK enforcement teams arrested a total of 13 individuals in the covert operation in Bengkulu on Monday, 9 March.

Following initial questioning at Bengkulu Police Station, nine of them were brought to Jakarta for further investigation. Two of these included Regent Fikri and Deputy Regent Hendri Praja.

“In addition to securing a number of individuals, the team also secured evidence including documents, electronic evidence and cash,” Budi explained.

In parallel with the investigation process, the KPK has also sealed several office spaces within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government.

“Of course this is necessary for the investigation process, and the team has carried this out,” Budi said.
