The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is still conducting a series of examinations before returning former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to the detention centre (rutan). KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the examination process for Yaqut is ongoing, including awaiting the results of a health test from the medical team. “A series of examinations are still underway,” Budi told CNNIndonesia.com on Tuesday (24/3). The anti-corruption agency previously stated that it would return Yaqut to the KPK Detention Centre if he passes the health examination. The health test was carried out by the medical team at Bhayangkara Hospital (RS), East Jakarta, on Monday. “We are all waiting for the results of this health test,” Budi said in an official statement received by CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (23/3). Earlier this week, the KPK had shifted Yaqut’s detention status back from house arrest to detention centre detention in relation to the alleged corruption case concerning Hajj quotas. “Today, Monday 23 March 2026, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect Mr. YCQ in the case of alleged criminal corruption in Hajj quotas, from house arrest back to KPK Detention Centre detention,” Budi said. Previously, Yaqut’s detention status had changed to house arrest on Thursday last week at the family’s request. The KPK emphasised that the change was not due to health conditions. “Not because of illness. It was indeed due to a request from the family, and then we processed it,” Budi said on Sunday (22/3). The change in detention status drew public attention because it was done without a public announcement. The information first emerged from a statement by Silvia Rinita Harefa, the wife of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, after visiting her husband at the KPK Detention Centre. Meanwhile, Yaqut’s legal team has not yet provided a response when contacted by the editorial team regarding the latest developments in their client’s detention.
