KPK States Yaqut Placed Under Temporary House Arrest
Spokesperson for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Budi Prasetyo, has confirmed that the change in detention status for former Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, from detention centre to house arrest is temporary.
Budi explained that the investigators’ decision took effect from Thursday night (19/3/2026), following a request submitted by the suspect’s family in the alleged corruption case regarding the 2024 Hajj quota.
“Indeed, the investigators have switched the type of detention for the suspect YCQ to house arrest since last Thursday night. This switch was based on a request from the family on 17 March 2026,” Budi stated in his official remarks to the media on Sunday (22/3/2026).
Budi noted that the decision underwent a thorough legal review. The legal basis used is Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
That article regulates the types of detention facilities and the investigators’ authority to switch detention status based on certain considerations.
“We assure that the temporary detention switch process complies with the provisions and procedures for investigation and detention of a suspect,” Budi said.
Even while under house arrest, Budi ensured that Yaqut remains under legal authority monitoring. The anti-corruption agency has deployed personnel for continuous security and strict supervision.
“During the implementation of this detention switch, KPK continues to provide close supervision and security to the individual,” he emphasised.
Budi also guaranteed that this detention status change will not disrupt the investigation process. He stressed that KPK is committed to thoroughly pursuing the alleged corruption case of the 2024 Hajj quota addition up to trial in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
