The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, has requested that his examination as a witness in the Hajj quota corruption case be postponed. Muhadjir was originally scheduled for questioning on Monday (18/05/2026) in his capacity as the interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022.

“The individual concerned has confirmed and requested a postponement of the examination,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a statement on Monday. “Investigators will reschedule the examination. In principle, any testimony from witnesses is certainly required in the investigation process of this case.”

The KPK has named four suspects in the Hajj quota corruption case: former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoulam, former special staff to Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (alias Gus Alex), former General Chairman of the Association of Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Unity (Kesthuri) Asrul Azis Taba, and the Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) Ismail Adham.

The KPK suspects there was an arrangement regarding the allocation of additional special Hajj quotas that did not comply with statutory regulations, as well as the provision of funds to state officials. Ismail Adham is alleged to have provided 30,000 US dollars to the former special staff, Gus Alex, in relation to the arrangement of these additional special quotas. Meanwhile, Asrul Azis Taba is alleged to have provided 406,000 US dollars to Gus Alex for the same purpose. As a result of these payments, eight Special Hajj Organisers (PIHK) affiliated with ASR allegedly obtained illegal profits in 2024 totalling Rp 40.8 billion. The KPK stated that Gus Alex and Hilman acted as representatives for Yaqut in receiving these funds.
