KPK Spokesperson: No Issue with Faizal Assegaf's Report to Police

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo does not take issue with the step taken by PT Sinkos Multimedia Mandiri’s Director General and 1998 Activist, Faizal Assegaf, who reported him to the Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding defamation. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said that all legal processes carried out by the KPK in summoning witnesses and seizing items are part of the responsibility to the public. “Yes, of course we see no problem,” Budi said at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/4/2026). “Also to convey every development in handling the case,” he added. Budi is confident that the Metro Jaya Regional Police will view the report objectively, professionally, and precisely. “We ensure that all law enforcement processes at the KPK uphold the principles of presumption of innocence,” he stated. On the other hand, Budi said that Faizal Assegaf was examined in connection with allegations of receiving goods or facilities in the suspected corruption case at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC). Faizal Assegaf, he said, admitted to the investigators about the items received, and those items have been seized by the investigators. “The investigators then carried out the seizure of those items, which of course the investigators have strong arguments to further investigate material from a witness, especially up to seizing items controlled by the person concerned,” he said. According to Faizal, Budi had defamed his name in the information conveyed to the mass media when he was examined by KPK investigators. In his report, Faizal submitted audio recordings and videos as evidence. Before reporting, he claimed to have sent a summons to Budi with a 1x24-hour deadline, but it was not responded to.
