KPK Spokesperson: No Fire at Merah Putih Building

JAKARTA – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Budi Prasetyo has confirmed that no fire occurred at the KPK’s Merah Putih building in Kuningan, Jakarta. On Saturday (29/8/2026), officers from the Fire and Rescue Sub-department visited the Merah Putih building.

“We confirm that there was no fire at the KPK’s Merah Putih building,” Budi said in his statement.

Budi said the smoke seen coming from the building originated from fogging activities that were underway in the building area. According to him, the fogging smoke triggered the fire detection equipment, causing the automatic fire suppression system to release smoke.

“Because the fogging smoke was detected by the fire fighting equipment. It then responded by automatically releasing smoke,” he said.

He explained that the fire fighting equipment at the KPK’s Merah Putih building functions to release extinguishing smoke to address potential sparks in electronic devices. “So the smoke that appeared was not from a fire, but from the fire fighting equipment,” he said.

Budi said the smoke emerged in the basement area, specifically in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) battery room.

He assured that the situation is under control and the smoke has been minimised using extractors. “Currently the General Bureau Team is vacuuming the smoke and conducting checks in other areas to mitigate and prevent potential risks,” Budi said.
