The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed the latest developments in the handling of the alleged corruption case involving Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. The anti-graft body stated that the case has now been elevated to the investigation stage and split into two different clusters.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the decision was made after investigators conducted an expose on Wednesday night. “The results of the expose decided that this case is elevated to the investigation stage for two case clusters,” Budi Prasetyo said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday.

The division of the case into two clusters was carried out to facilitate the investigation process into the alleged criminal acts of corruption that emerged from the hand-catching operation (OTT) against the Pemalang Regent.

The first cluster is related to the alleged extortion committed by Anom Widiyantoro against several parties. According to Budi, the alleged extortion not only targeted officials within the Pemalang Regency Government but also involved private parties. “The first cluster is related to the alleged extortion committed by Anom Widiyantoro against Pemalang Regency Government officials and private parties,” he stated. However, the KPK has not yet provided details regarding the form of the alleged extortion, the amount of money involved, or the projects that are the subject of the investigation.

In addition to the extortion case implicating the Regent, the KPK has also opened an investigation into a second cluster. This cluster is related to an alleged extortion carried out by an internal KPK officer against the Pemalang Regent. “The second cluster is related to the alleged extortion committed by a KPK officer against the Pemalang Regent,” Budi said. Although confirming the existence of the investigation, the KPK has not yet revealed the identity of the officer in question or the chronology of the alleged extortion.

The anti-corruption agency stated that complete information regarding the case construction will be delivered in a press conference once the administrative process of the investigation is complete. The roles of the respective suspects in the two case clusters have also not been detailed.
